Unfortunately, a large amount of people worldwide suffer from an addiction.
This could be an addiction to nicotine or caffeine, or something more serious, an alcohol addiction. A drug or alcohol addiction can be destructive for your social life, your education or career.
You or someone you know might suddenly become disinterested in her/his family, university or work. Or completely changes in behaviour. It’s a disease that can happen to the best of us.
Drug and Alcohol addiction can be beaten however, with the right guidance, advice and help, one could be substance free.
However, it is certainly not easy to become alcohol free. Withdrawal symptoms come in various forms, some are severe depending on the longevity and the severity of your addiction. Severe Alcohol Withdrawal Symptoms are Delirium Tremens for example.
These severe tremors could lead to death if not handled properly. Other issues such as hallucinations and seizures could be hard to experience during withdrawal.
That is why it is of extreme importance you do not attempt to do the withdrawal from home and withdraw from alcohol in a setting that allows you to have medical professionals around you at all times.
At Ocean Recovery Centre, we have that opportunity available for you. We can help you get clean within 4 weeks and get you started on a programme which focuses on long term recovery.

About Alcohol Addiction
Drug and Alcohol addiction can be hard to measure. There are no official statistics on alcoholism or drug addiction, as there is a large group of people who tend to abuse alcohol, and not report it and get help.
Therefore, it’s hard to see and/or judge how many people are suffering from it.
We know however, that it can be devastating. As stated, alcoholism and drug abuse can be devastating.
It can completely disband one’s relationships with others. Many families and partners have seen their loved one change due to alcohol and drug abuse.
Physically one will suffer from being addicted. For instance, if someone becomes alcohol dependent, there can be some nasty consequences for your body. Examples are;
- Not feel hungry, not eat well, and lose weight.
- Notice tiny blood vessels on your skin that look like spider webs (spider angiomas).
- See swelling or redness of the palms of your hands.
- Have redness on your face, especially your nose and cheeks.
- Have repeated infections and skin sores (abscesses).
Do you feel like that you’re addicted to alcohol? Planning to quit? It’s not going to be easy.
If you are a severe alcoholic, it can be very difficult to stop drinking once you are addicted.

Start your Recovery - Call us nowAbout Physical Alcohol Withdrawal Symptoms:
The ‘shakes’ is one of the most documented and well-known alcohol withdrawal symptoms, a lot of alcohol addicts come across. After a period of heavy and prolonged drinking, one might start experiencing body tremors.
Alcoholism and alcohol abuse cause tremors in diverse ways. However, there are many other physical alcohol withdrawal symptoms that lead to lasting damage.
Alcohol withdrawal can lead to nerve cell damage. Alcohol is considered a depressant, by reducing activities in your brain. Your brain becomes gradually more used to that consistent low level of stimulation as one maintains heavy or frequent drinking.
About Psychological Alcohol Withdrawal Symptoms:
A lot of people who have been suffering with anxiety and depression self-medicate with alcohol, which could cause a vicious cycle to happen.
Drinking alcohol might help someone with depression or anxiety in the short term, but binge drinking will lower the serotonin levels in your brain after a few hours, which regulates the feeling of happiness in your brain.
You would feel even worse the next day, and it would push you to drink more, which in turn would exacerbate your mental health issue.
Once you are addicted to alcohol, you will not be able to feel positive towards anything if you are not drinking. One of the main withdrawal symptoms you will be suffering from will likely be

Treating Alcohol Withdrawal Syndrome
While experiencing withdrawal symptoms you will be monitored 24 hours a day by our medical team. In the rare case that your symptoms become severe, we can offer you prescription drugs such as Benzodiazepines to help ease the effects and reduce the risk of a seizure.
Due to the risks that come with detoxification from alcohol, we strongly recommend that you do not try this at home. Experiencing such side effects without proper medical supervision could be life-threatening. If still want to go ahead with a home detox then we advise you to consult your GP first.
Along with all the medical support you are provided, you will also partake in therapies and support groups during your alcohol detox to help you keep control of your mind and reduce the risk of any mood swings which are common when dealing with symptoms of alcohol withdrawal.
For more information on alcohol withdrawal syndrome please get in touch with a member of our team who can provide you with all the necessary details.
