Although used to treat infections and illnesses, some patients substitute one medical problem for another causing addiction to painkillers to arise.

Over time users become tolerant to painkillers meaning more of the drug is required to feel the desired high.

Breaking free from opioid-based painkillers addiction often requires much more than mere willpower. Instead, painkiller rehabilitation treatment is necessary if a painkiller addiction is to be overcome.

How Our Painkiller Rehabilitation Treatment Programme Work

Our painkiller rehabilitation programme requires clients to move into our centre for the duration of treatment. In doing so, the triggers of addiction are made unavailable. For instance, clients have no access to painkillers during detoxification and subsequent psychological treatment.

Determining The Painkiller Rehabilitation Treatment You Require

When you decide that the time is right for you to take advantage of the painkiller rehabilitation treatment we provide, our admissions team will conduct a pre-admission assessment to help you understand the treatment you are likely to encounter at our facility.

Upon entering our residential drug and alcohol rehab, you will then be required to complete a second assessment with our medical team. Although they will already have an understanding of the severity of your addiction, conducting a further assessment will enable them to determine the physical and psychological impact your addiction has had on you.

In doing so, our medical staff will be able to devise a personalised painkiller rehabilitation treatment programme for you.

Painkiller Detoxification Programme

As and when you enter our residential rehab, the first step in your painkiller rehabilitation treatment programme will consist of a painkiller detoxification programme.

During a medically induced detoxification, painkillers will be cleansed from your system. In doing so, your brain and body will begin to withdraw from the substances you have become addicted to and will start to recover from your addiction.

Our team will ensure that you receive 24-hour day medical attention during detoxification to ensure that withdrawal symptoms are closely monitored.

If you find the withdrawal symptoms unbearable to cope with during detoxification, you may be offered opiate receptor antagonists such as Subutex and Naltrexone. These opiate receptor antagonists will essentially ease the physical and psychological withdrawal symptoms you encounter.

Common Withdrawal Symptoms

As individuals struggling with painkiller addictions progress through detoxification, withdrawal symptoms are often encountered.

Although these withdrawal symptoms can cause some discomfort, it is entirely normal to experience the following;

  • Confusion
  • Sweating
  • Nausea
  • Fatigue
  • Anxiety
  • Muscle aches and pains
  • Restlessness
  • Heart palpitations
  • High temperature

Although the severity of withdrawal symptoms varies greatly, they typically last for up to fifteen days from when painkillers were last consumed.

As touched on above, it should be noted that at our residential rehab, we provide around the clock care to all of our patients. With this in mind, should you find yourself experiencing any of the above withdrawal symptoms during painkiller rehabilitation treatment, our team of medical professionals and recovery staff will do everything possible to ensure that you are comfortable.

What Happens After Detox?

Having successfully detoxed from the painkiller that you have become addicted to, your overall physical and psychological state will begin to stabilise. As and when this happens, you will progress onto the rehabilitation stage of your painkiller rehabilitation treatment.

Throughout rehabilitation, you will begin to take part in one-to-one and group therapy sessions.

During therapy, you will be encouraged to overcome the psychological aspects of painkiller addiction by determining the factors that have caused your addiction to arise.

Although this may cause you some discomfort, doing so will ensure that you can identify any triggers that may cause you to relapse, and develop various coping strategies that will help you make a long-term recovery.

Please note that the therapy you are provided with during rehabilitation will entirely depend on how your painkiller addiction has impaired your physical and psychological health. Our medical team will be able to inform you of the therapy that you will encounter upon completing a medical assessment as you enter our facility.

Aftercare Support For Individuals Requiring Painkiller Rehabilitation Treatment

As and when our medical professionals are satisfied with the progress you have made during your painkiller rehabilitation treatment, you will be discharged from our rehab.

Although many believe that as and when they complete rehab, they will be left to continue to recover from their addiction alone, this is not true.

At Ocean Recovery Centre, we understand that insufficient aftercare support is one of the leading causes of relapses. Considering this, we provide all of our patients with 12-months of free aftercare support.

Our aftercare support typically includes weekly catch-up sessions with our recovery team. These catch-up sessions are usually group sessions and are held every Saturday of the year. However, if you require additional support, we can also offer you further one-to-one therapy.

We also encourage clients to engage in local Narcotics Anonymous groups in their local area.
