If you know that you are struggling with some form of addiction and would like to get your drug or alcohol addiction under control, our rehab centres in North Wales and near Colwyn Bay can help.
We know that addiction is a tough problem to deal with, especially during times where it is expected to sometimes go overboard, for example, during the holidays, birthdays and events such as weddings and parties. Drug or alcohol addiction is a serious matter though. If left unchecked, it can cause both physical and mental damage.
People in recovery often wish they’d got in touch sooner. If you think we could help you, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
What does it mean to be addicted?
It doesn’t matter what the substance is, if you are addicted to something, then it can quickly take over your life.
What may seem like an innocent hobby at first such as gambling can quickly turn into an addiction and other harmful problems can soon start to follow.
If a person finds that they have become addicted to something, this can be a very difficult thing to shake off. Even though there exists a great wealth of information on addiction, including free advice and courses online, denial can often be one of the biggest problems. This is partly down to the taboo of being an addict.
We find that dedicated treatment programmes are the best way to tackle drug or alcohol addiction. Removing yourself from your usual environment and checking yourself into private rehab can work wonders, especially since being surrounded by bad conditions in the comfort of your own home can seem falsely appealing.
What to expect in your recovery from alcohol addiction?
When you first arrive in one of our residential rehab centres the first big step you must take is giving up the substances that you are addicted to. Luckily, you’ll be doing this in the comfort of a stunning retreat, surrounded by other people in recovery and a team of highly trained staff.
When you give up on the substances you regularly use, you will start to go through detox. While many people may have tried this at some point in their past, there is no safer way to accomplish this than in a treatment centre. Most people will start to exhibit withdrawal symptoms when they first start a detox, this is to be expected. We make sure we watch over you and treat any negative symptoms as and when they arise.
The next step after detox is when we start to tackle the core issues of your addiction. Depending on the treatment programmes, this can be tackled in a number of ways. Primarily, therapy is used. With the use of individual therapy, we can start to delve into your past to pinpoint any of the moments that may have led to these issues. Although this may feel like a strange process at first, ultimately, it is found to be the most effective.
If the idea of one-to-one therapy is daunting, some patients feel more at ease in a group setting. This often helps them feel relaxed and give them the option to open up more. Other people in recovery will be present to share their experiences and we start to see close bonds formed in these sessions.
Once you leave our rehab centre you will be clean of substances and well equipped to deal with any problems that arise. We don’t just leave you to fend for yourself though, a full aftercare programme will be crafted under your supervision that tackles some of the more common issues patients may face.
What can happen if your addiction is left unchecked?
When a patient comes to us suffering from addiction and other harmful behaviours, they usually are affected by some type of health problem to go with them. Not all of these problems can be physical either, more often than not, the mental side effects of addiction are the more pressing matter.
Without treating a person’s mental health, it can be ultimately impossible to fully treat their addiction. Mental health problems are more common than you may think, especially when it comes to those in recovery from alcohol addiction. Some of these problems may have caused the addiction in the first place and others may be the result of the addiction. We use both individual and group counselling to help treat this.
The physical side effects that stem from addiction should not be ignored either. The majority of people suffering from drug or alcohol abuse are putting a great deal of stress on their bodies. Some of this damage can quickly become irreversible such as damage to the liver. Other physical injuries can include those that aren’t directly related to the substance itself, for example, broken bones resulting from falls or fights while intoxicated.
Aside from the mental and physical side effects, the social side effects of addiction can also exacerbate the entire situation. We know that some people can get addicted solely through their social circle. Especially when growing up, if somebody is surrounded by negative influences, such as those who take drugs regularly, they may start to follow suit.
If somebody has had a tough upbringing then it has also been found that this can result in drug or alcohol problems later on in life. This can be used as a method to cope that simply grows out of hand. A person can even grow further isolated if their addiction causes them to grow even further away from their family.
